Norma Clairene (McDaniel) McCoy passed away peacefully on January 20, 2018 at the age of 90 years. She had lost her husband of 70 years, Ed, in March of 2017 and was suffering from dementia in the final years of her life.
Norma was born in Madison, IN and though she lived the majority of her life in Lawrence, her hometown remained dear to her. After graduating from Lawrence Central High School, she married Ed and soon moved to Pensacola, FL for his training and service in the US Navy. Back in IN, they bought 5 acres from a dear aunt and uncle and lived in that house on Mithoeffer Rd the rest of their lives together. They raised their children Karen, Gary, and Ginger and worked hard in mostly the same jobs , hers being a banquet waitress at large hotels ( Holiday Inn and Marriott). Her work was a vital part of Norma’s life. She had boundless energy and loved people, so it was a career well-suited for her and she continued at that job into her 80’s. Everyone loved her baking. Sweets were her most favorite food (“always order dessert first,”) so her pies, cobblers and fudge became renowned recipes – even winning a blue ribbon for peanut butter fudge at the county fair (her grandkids were especially proud of that). She was always doing things for others because that gave her joy. The only thing better was playing a joke on someone. She will be loved and missed by many friends and family. Special thanks for the loving care she received at Kesslerwood Place since November.
She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, five great- grandkids and three great-greats. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday January 24 at Indiana Funeral Care, with visitation from 2:30 until the time of service.
